Ocean Plastic Products, Inc. was founded by Jack Hartwell in 1985. Located on the West side of Santa Cruz California, Jack and OPPi quickly developed a reputation for high quality and expertise. Jack employed traditional tools of the trade such as table saws, routers, and drill presses to fabricate a wide range of products from Point of Purchase (POP) displays to equipment covers and display cases of every kind.
Frank Mages purchased OPPi from Jack in 2010 where he carried on the tradition of excellence that Jack had established. Frank operated out of the West Side shop until 2012 when he moved the business to a larger facility in Live Oak. The extra space allowed Frank to diversify the customer base and the scope of fabrications. The face of OPPi changed forever when Frank purchased the first CNC router in 2013. Frank mastered SAi’s EnRoute tool-pathing software which dramatically expanded our product offerings to include parts with much greater geometric complexity, much higher accuracy, and higher run quantities.
Frank continued to operate OPPi until 2015 when he sold the business to Bill Turner. Bill has continued to leverage the capabilities of 3D CAD modeling and our CNC equipment – including our new state-of-the-art Camaster Cobra 510 and software – along with customer-specific vacuum fixturing to produce parts with smaller geometries and with even more complexity at higher quantities. In addition to plastic fabrication, OPPi offers 3D engraving in plastic, wood and non-ferrous metals as well as laser cutting and etching in a variety of materials.
